I have had a very busy summer working on the lab, needless to say i’ll be making a posting about that in due course.

I’ve already had my first meeting with my supervisors for the start of term. There is alot happening ! My first formal post graduate review will happen this term, and I’m really looking forward to it, albeit I’m rather nervous at the same time. I have planned and rehearsed the expected Q&A for my first review. I’m focused on explaning my research plan being a part-time student and how/when things will be progressing.

I’ve also signed up for research presentation in Bournemouth, I’m really hoping my topic gets selected for the poster event. I have been to several poster events on cryptanalysis and I’m excited by the opptunity to take questions and people ask me about my reasearch ! Hopefully I will get some good news in October if I will be doing my poster !

In other work I have been really focusing on the day to day costs of running my lab, having been forced to use a smart meter, I’m now carefully monitoring how and when I use the cluster – having 4 Dell R720’s on 24*7 costs me about £4 a day, and when I start throwing models to train and run on it, the costs go up, of course its far less than the cloud service providers would charge me for GPU access, so I’m just glad to have that service on tap at the home lab. I will be looking at more ‘DevOps’ stuff in terms of power utilisation and processing scaling across the cluster wth graphana in due course.

Its a short post this time, just to let people know I’m still working very hard on my research and I’m still here !

I look forward to creating the next post, I think I’ll focus on the software defined radio and the chipwhisperer capture of AES traces in the lab.

For now, thanks for reading the blog !
